Meanwhile if you haven’t gone through Part 1 and Part 2 of Asked DI Questions with unique solutions. You can read them now, by clicking below the following link.

DI Set – 3

Directions : Given below Line Graph represents the number of males and females in various colleges of a city. Study the data carefully and answer the questions.

Q.1) The total number of visitors on Monday and Tuesday together in park A is approximately what percent more than that of the total number of visitors on Friday in park A..?
(a) 42%
(b) 51%
(c) 48%
(d) 58%
(e) 37%

Solution :

Total visitors on Monday and Tuesday in A = 280 + 340 = 620
Total number of visitors on Friday in A = 420

Now, we all know the property of Percentage, which says (x is what percent more than y) also known as Percentage Increase can be calculated as,

Percentage Increase = [ (Final value – Initial value) / Initial value ] × 100

So, we will apply the same here,

Required Percentage =[ (620 – 420)/420 ] × 100
                          = (200/420) × 100

Next, to solve this calculation, looks like a tedious task and time consuming. But we are here to assist you with some easier approach. So let’s focus on it.
We know,

420 ≈ 100%
42 ≈ 10%
4.2 ≈ 1%

From this, we can say that

50% of 420 = 1/2 × 420 = 210

Now 210 is slightly more than 200, that means our answer need to be less than 50% so we can easily eliminate option (b) and (d) as they are more than 50% and since 200 < 210, our answer will also be slightly lesser than 50% and option (e) can also be eliminated.

Here, only two options are left, and we have to choose any one. Although you can do some guess work also, as 200 is slightly lesser than 210, so answer would also be slightly less than 50% and 48% seems to be the most fit option. Hence, you can mark option (c) a the answer.

But, if we want to calculate the actual figure, we have to follow these steps

We found 50% of 420 = 210
So, inorder to arrive at 200, we should (210-200) = 10 is what percent of 420.
Whatever it will be, we will subtract that percentage value from 50% to arrive at our answer.

Thus, we know 4.2 ≈ 1% so 10 will more than 2% and less than 3% (as 8.4 ≈ 2%)
Here it’s asked to calculate the approximate value, so we will consider it as 2% only.

Hence Required Percentage = 50% – 2% = 48% [ANS]

Q.2) What is the difference between the total number of visitors on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday in Park A to that of the total number of visitors on Monday, Friday and Saturday in Park B ?
(a) 280
(b) 360
(c) 320
(d) 260
(e) 220

Solution :

Total visitors on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday in A = 340+380+420 = 1140
Total visitors on Monday, Friday and Saturday in B = 280+360+220 = 860

Required Difference = 1140 – 860 = 280 [ANS]

Q.3) If on Wednesday in park A, the ratio of the total number of male visitors to that of female visitors is 11:8 and the total number of female visitors on Wednesday in park A is equal to the total number of male visitors on Saturday in park A,  so find the total number of female visitors on Saturday in park A.
(a) 180
(b) 140
(c) 80
(d) 100
(e) 200

Solution :

Total visitors on Wednesday in A = 380
Ratio of male and female = 11 : 8
So, No. of females = 8/19 × 380 = 160

Now as given, No. of females on Wednesday in A = No. of males on Saturday in A

And, we know that total number of visitors on Saturday in A = 260
Hence, Required no. of female visitors on Saturday in A = 260 – 160 = 100 [ANS]

Q.4) If on Sunday, the total number of visitors of park A and park B is increased by 20% and 30% respectively to that of Thursday. Then find the difference between the total number of visitors on Tuesday in both the parks together to that of the total number of visitors on Sunday in both parks together.
(a) 160
(b) 220
(c) 150
(d) 180
(e) 200

Solution :

First of all, we should know that
Increase of 20% = 120/100 , and
Similarly, Increase of 30% = 130/100

[This means that, before the value was 100 & now after the increase it’s 120. These values are taken because, while dealing with percentages we can take the initial value as 100 to make the calculations easy]

Total visitors of A on Thursday = 240
Total visitors of B on Thursday = 340

Thus, in park A if on Thursday total were 100, then on Sunday total will be 120. Similarly in park B if on Thursday total were 100, then on Sunday total will be 130

So, in park A
6 ≈ ?
5 ≈ 240
Now to find the value of ‘?’ we need to cross multiply,
Hence, Total visitors on Sunday in park A,

? = (240×6) / 5 = 48×6 = 288

Similarly, in park B
130 ≈ ?
100 ≈ 340
Now to find the value of ‘?’ we need to cross multiply,
Hence, Total visitors on Sunday in park B,

? = (340×130) / 100 = 34×13 = 442

Thus, Total visitors on Sunday = 288+442 = 730
Total visitors on Tuesday = 240+340 = 580

Required Difference = 730-580 = 150 [ANS]

Q.5) What is the average number of visitors on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday  in park B?
(a) 315
(b) 205
(c) 325
(d) 285
(e) 305

Solution :

Average = (300+340+360+220) / 4 = 1220/4 = 305 [ANS]

Note : Try to do all the calculations mentally, as described and cut short the sentences written above, they are just to make you understand. Although Explanations may look difficult or tedious, but once understood it will be easy and less time consuming to deal with.
