**Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS)**has conducted the Prelims Exam for the post of Probationary Officers successfully across the country on

**13 & 14th October 2018**. The exam was conducted in four different slots. The sections were divided in the time slot of 20 minutes each which was introduced for the first time. Approximately

**10-15 lakh aspirants**applied for this post of IBPS PO and only 4,252 candidates will get the final selection.

**Data Interpretation,**appeared in Quantitative Aptitude section with some experienced tips and tricks. Hopefully this turns out to be a good learning for our readers.

__DI – Set 1__

**Q.1)**

**Find the ratio of males in college B to females in college E ?**

__Solution__:*Number of Males in college B = 80*

*Number of Females in college E = 100*

*Required Ratio = 80 : 100 = 4 : 5 [ANS]*

**Q.2) What is the approximate percentage of females in college E is of males in college D ?**

__Solution__:*No. of Females in College E = 100*

*No. of Males in College D = 140*

*Required Percentage = 100/140 * 100*

( Now hold on and refrain from using the old school methods of dividing the numbers and then calculating the percentage, instead of use some smart techniques, as described below)

we know that,

*100% of 140 ≈ 140*

*10% of 140 ≈ 14*

*1% of 140 ≈ 1.4*

So,

*14 × 7 ≈ 10% × 7 (=70%)*

*Remaining 100 – (14×7) = 100 – 98 = 2*

*And 1% of 140 = 1.4*

Therefore,

*Required Percentage = 70% + 1% = 71% (approx) [ANS]*

**Q.3) If 25% of people (males+females) in college C are unskilled, in which 23 females are unskilled, then find the number of skilled males in college C ?**

__Solution__*:*

*Total number of people in College C = 140,*

*Unskilled people in College C = 25% of 140 = 1/4 of 140 = 35*

*Given, no. of unskilled females = 23*

*So, *

*No. of unskilled males = 35 – 23 = 12*

*And, Number of skilled males = (Total males) – 12*

*= 100 – 12 = 88 [ANS]*

**Q.4) Find the Average number of males in Colleges A , B and E together.**

__Solution__ :

*No. of males in college A = 136*

*No. of males in college B = 80*

*No. of males in college E = 60*

*So,*

*Average = (136+80+60)/3*

Wait now !! Although this calculation looks simpler, but what if number were complex to deal with? Hence there is one more way to calculate the Average, which we will learn here & try to solve this.

First of all we all know that – “Average is defined as the equal distribution among the given n numbers”

Therefore, we all will be using the same concept here to solve this problem.

Assume, Average to be ’80’ and thus make all of them equal to 80 by balancing or compensating them with each other

*A = 80 (Extra = 136 – 80 = 56)*

*B = 80 *

*C = 80 (Extra = 60-80 = -20)*

*Now distribute the Extra part equally among the three.*

Hence,

*Average = 80 + (Extra / 3)*

* = 80 + (56 + (-20) / 3)*

* = 80 + (36 / 3)*

* = 80 + 12 = 92 [ANS]*

**Q.5) What is the difference between the number of males in college D to the number of females in college A ?**

__Solution__:*No. of males in D = 140*

*No. of females in A = 75*

*Difference = 140 – 75 = 65 [ANS]*

**Try to do all the calculations mentally, as described above and cut short the sentences written above, they are just to make you understand. Although Explanations may look difficult or tedious, but once understood it will be easy and less time consuming to deal with.**
