IBPS has conducted the Prelims Exam for the post of Probationary Officer successfully across the country in the month of October 2018. The exam was conducted in four different slots. This box-based puzzle was asked in one of the four slots of the IBPS PO prelims exam. Let’s have a look on what’s the right way to solve it.
Directions : Read the information given below carefully and answer the following questions.
Ten Boxes with name A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, and J are placed one above the other in any particular order. Box number 1 is at the bottom and Box no 10 is at the top. Arrange them as per the information given here.
There are two boxes kept between F and I. Box J is placed at the bottom i.e at box no. 1. There are three boxes between Box A and Box E. Box I is placed at even number position. Box C is at 8th number position. Box D is kept in a place which is immediately below the Box C and immediately above Box E. Box B is placed between the box G and box I.
Solution
First of all, we will take a cursory look of the information given above and find a direct statement. Here this statement is – “Box J is placed at the bottom i.e at box number 1” and “Box C is at 8th number position. Box D is kept at a place which is immediately below Box C and immediately above Box E.” Now arrange them.
Next we have to consider the statement which says that “There are three boxes between Box A and Box E.” Now, there becomes a possibility of two cases as shown below.

At the third step, consider the statement “There are two boxes kept between F and I.” Furthermore, this statement “Box I is placed at even number position.” confirms that only case (ii) is possible. So we will eliminate the case (i) and arrange the remaining data accordingly. This is the final arrangement.
