As we all know that Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) has successfully conducted the examination of IBPS PO Mains 2018 for the selection of Probationary Officers across the country. The selection procedure consists of three stages which includes prelims exam and mains exam followed by the interview round in the end. This year as per the notification, only 4252 candidates will be getting the final selection.
In this article, we are sharing the Memory Based questions of IBPS PO Mains 2018 from the reasoning ability and computer aptitude section. Here we are going to discuss the questions from the topics like seating arrangement puzzle and input – output. Let’s see what can be the unique method to solve these memory based questions.
Directions : Read the information given below carefully and answer the following questions.
Six people named as A, B, C, D, E and F are sitting around a triangular shaped table. The people those who are sitting at the corners of the table are facing outside whereas the people those who are sitting at the middle of the table are facing inside. All the six people likes 6 different types of birds which includes peacock, eagle, pigeons, sparrow, parrots and kingfisher. The information given is not in order, arrange them as per the instructions written below.
Two people are sitting between A and the one who likes pigeons. The one who likes sparrow sits second to the left of A. E is sitting to the immediate right of the who likes pigeons. Two people are sitting between E and D. The one who likes parrot sits immediate right of the one who likes sparrow. B is sitting third to the right of the one who likes sparrow. The one who likes kingfisher sits third to the left of one who likes parrot. A likes peacock. B doesn’t like either kingfisher or pigeons. F doesn’t have it immediate neighbour as A and E.
Solution
First of all, we will take a cursory look of the instructions given above and find a direct statement. Here we will start with the statement – Two people are sitting between A and the one who likes pigeons followed by E is sitting to the immediate right of the who likes pigeons. From these two statements it’s clear that there becomes a possibility of two cases as shown in the figures below.
Next we move with the statement – The one who likes sparrow sits second to the left of A and then with statement – Two people are sitting between E and D followed by The one who likes parrot sits immediate right of the one who likes sparrow and B is sitting third to the right of the one who likes sparrow. All these statements can be arranged as :
Case (i) |
Case (ii) |
Furthermore here’s a statement which says that – The one who likes kingfisher sits third to the left of one who likes parrot but the important condition which says B doesn’t like either kingfisher or pigeons cancels out and eliminate the case (ii) and thus we are left out with only case (i).
Now arranging the remaining data carefully with statements saying A likes peacock and F doesn’t have it immediate neighbour as A and E. The final arrangement will come out to be as follows.
Time taken to solve this seating arrangement question is around 3 to 4 minutes as the direct statements are not given in the instructions.
Q.1) Who is sitting third to the left of A ?
(a) D
(b) F
(c) The one who likes kingfisher
(d) The one who likes pigeons
(e) The one who likes eagle
Answer : Option (d) The one who likes pigeons
Q.2) Who is sitting to the immediate right of F ?
(a) A
(b) D
(c) The one who likes kingfisher
(d) The one who likes parrot.
(e) Both (a) and (d)
Answer : Option (e)- Both (a) and (d)
Q.3) Which of the following person likes sparrow ?
(a) C
(b) E
(c) F
(d) A
(e) D
Answer : Option (c) – F
Q.4) What is the position of B with respect to D ?
(a) Immediate left
(b) Second to the left
(c) Third to the right
(d) Third to the left
(e) Immediate right
Answer : Option (b) – Second to the left.
Directions : Study the data carefully given in the following arrangement and based on the same pattern as shown in the below example, answer the given question.
Solution
Before going to the question, let us first understand the pattern which is being followed in the given example.
Step I – The numbers in step I can be arrived by multiplying even numbers by 2 and odd numbers by 3. For example 62 is an even number in the given input, but after multiplying it by 2 this becomes 124 in Step I. Similarly 31 which is an odd number becomes 93 after getting multiplied by 3 in Step I.
Step II – The first number in this step is 217 which is arrived after adding 124 and 93. Next number 24 is arrived after subtracting 69 from 93. The third number 165 is arrived after adding 69 and 96. Similarly the numbers are arrived either by addition or subtraction of two numbers in a random format.
Step III – The numbers in this step are arrived by multiplying the digits in the numbers of step II. For example, 14 is arrived by multiplying the digits of 217 i.e. 2×1×7 = 14. Similarly other numbers are also arrived following the same pattern.
Step IV – In this step the numbers are arrived after dividing each number in Step III by 2. For example 7 is arrived after dividing for 14 by 2 and 22.5 is arrived after dividing 45 by 2. Similarly other numbers are also arrived following the same pattern.
Q.1) Which element in Step III is second to the left of third element from right end ?
(a) 219
(b) 30
(c) 42
(d) 15
(e) 159
Answer : Second to the left of third element from right end means fifth element from right end. Hence Option (b) – 30 is the correct answer.
Q.2) What will come as the answer when fourth element from left end is multiplied by 2 ?
(a) 30
(b) 12
(c) 15
(d) 45
(e) 26
Answer : Option (c) – 15
Q.3) Which element is second to the right of fourth element from right end in Step IV ?
(a) 22.5
(b) 4
(c) 15
(d) 7.5
(e) 21
Answer : Second to the right of fourth element from right end means second element from right end. Hence Option (a) – 22.5 is the answer in this case.
